THE MODULAR TRANSITION.

The GT adopts a 4.6L modular V8. Cobra takes a four-valve approach, creating important differences in engine layout and service information.

SN95 brought rounded, heritage-inspired styling, followed by the sharper New Edge update in 1999. Modular V8 power and a new generation of SVT Cobras changed the Mustang performance conversation.

IDENTIFY THE CONFIGURATION.

A model year is the starting point. Confirm the body style, engine, transmission, axle, market, and factory packages before comparing specifications or ordering parts. A restored or modified Mustang may no longer match its original build.

This year has an overview and source directory. Individual trim and powertrain records are not yet transcribed; use the original year-specific publication for those details.

OWNERSHIP NOTES.

Check convertible operation, cooling-system history, intake-manifold condition where applicable, and the quality of modifications. Cobra independent rear suspension requires different inspection and service references from a live-axle GT.

The imported 2016 workshop manual is not a substitute for this model year’s service information. Use the correct factory publication.
