PCM

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

Inspect the bulb and make sure it is OK.

PINPOINT TEST A : THE REVERSING LAMP IS INOPERATIVE

A1 CHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) COMMANDED GEAR OR REVERSE SWITCH PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION)

Apply the parking brake. Ignition ON. Using a diagnostic scan tool, view PCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs). For manual transmission vehicles, monitor the Reverse Switch (REV_SW) PCM PID. For automatic transmission vehicles, monitor the Gear Commanded (GEAR) PCM PID. Place the gear selector in REVERSE (R).

Does the PID indicate the gear range is in reverse?

Yes

GO to A2

No

For automatic transmission vehicles, DIAGNOSE the transmission range concern. REFER to: External Controls (307-05 Automatic Transmission External Controls, Diagnosis and Testing).

For manual transmission vehicles, GO to A7

A2 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE REVERSING LAMP

Ignition OFF. Apply the parking brake. Disconnect: Except China, Reversing Lamp C496. Disconnect: China Only, Rear Fog Lamp C436. Ignition ON. Place the gear selector in REVERSE (R). Except China, measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

Yes

GO to A4

No

GO to A3

A3 REPEAT THE ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST AND CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE REVERSING LAMP
