THE FIRST S197 BODY CLOSES.

The original S197 exterior reaches its final model year. The following year changes the body before the major 2011 powertrain updates.

S197 translated the original Mustang silhouette into a modern platform. A major powertrain change in 2011 introduced the 5.0L Coyote V8 and a new 3.7L V6, while Shelby and Boss models pushed performance further.

IDENTIFY THE CONFIGURATION.

A model year is the starting point. Confirm the body style, engine, transmission, axle, market, and factory packages before comparing specifications or ordering parts. A restored or modified Mustang may no longer match its original build.

This year has an overview and source directory. Individual trim and powertrain records are not yet transcribed; use the original year-specific publication for those details.

OWNERSHIP NOTES.

Match service information to the engine and model year. Inspect clutch and gearbox operation, rear-axle noise, water entry, and modifications. Three-valve and Coyote engines have different procedures and service concerns.

The imported 2016 workshop manual is not a substitute for this model year’s service information. Use the correct factory publication.
