With independent rear suspension across the regular range and an international launch, S550 made the Mustang a more global sports car. EcoBoost, GT, Shelby, Bullitt, and Mach 1 each offered a different interpretation.

THE CHAPTER IN CONTEXT.

The launch lineup included a V6, turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost, and 5.0L GT. The GT350 introduced a 5.2L flat-plane-crank V8. The 2018 update revised the GT powertrain and added a ten-speed automatic option; the later GT500 used a dual-clutch transmission.

2015

Mustang goes global

S550 launches with independent rear suspension and a turbocharged EcoBoost option. The GT continues with a 5.0L V8.

2016

Into the workshop

2017

The early S550 develops

The pre-facelift S550 continues, including the GT350. Verify powertrain, brake, and suspension packages before selecting service instructions.

2018

S550 evolves

Revised styling, a revised GT engine, and an available ten-speed automatic mark a major update. The V6 leaves the regular Mustang range.

2019

Bullitt for a new era

A new Bullitt edition combines restrained appearance with a higher-output naturally aspirated V8. It is a distinct configuration within the S550 range.

2020

GT500 returns

A supercharged 5.2L GT500 arrives with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Its service requirements differ substantially from GT and GT350 models.

2021

Mach 1 returns

Mach 1 brings a track-oriented combination of S550 hardware. It offers a distinct chassis, cooling, and transmission package rather than simply an appearance treatment.

2022

The late S550 years

EcoBoost, GT, Mach 1, and Shelby offerings give buyers several performance paths. Published ratings and availability must be checked for the exact model year.

2023

S550 signs off
