DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION > TRANSMISSION COOLING - OVERVIEW
Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission are equipped with an external transmission fluid cooler. The transmission fluid cooler is an oil to air fluid cooler which is mounted in front of the radiator. The transmission fluid travels from the transmission through the cooler and back to the transmission via transmission fluid cooler tubes. The transmission fluid cooler transfers heat from the transmission fluid to the ambient air passing over the cooler.
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING > TRANSMISSION COOLING > INSPECTION AND

2. If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, repair as necessary.
3. Install new components if a transmission fluid leak is found in any of the transmission cooling components.
4. If the cause is not visually evident, check for DTC. REFER to: Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Charts and Pinpoint Tests - 2.3L EcoBoost (201kW/273PS) . REFER to: Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Charts and Pinpoint Tests - 3.7L Duratec (227kW/301PS) . REFER to: Diagnostic Trouble
