Ignition OFF.

Disconnect PCM.

Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals.

For the 2.3L engine, measure:

Positive Lead	Measurement / Action	Negative Lead
C226A-9		C1551B-88

For the 3.5L engine, measure:

Positive Lead	Measurement / Action	Negative Lead
C226A-9		C1381B-24

For the 5.0L engine, measure:

Positive Lead	Measurement / Action	Negative Lead
C226A-9		C175B-24

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes	GO to B10

No	REPAIR the circuit.

B10 CHECK THE DOWNSHIFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

Measure:

Positive Lead	Measurement / Action	Negative Lead
C226A-9		Ground

Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?

Yes	GO to B11

No	REPAIR the circuit.

B11 CHECK THE CLOCKSPRING CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

Connect PCM.

Ignition ON.
